Project Background
Beijing-Kumming Highway, is an expressway connecting Beijing and Kumming, Yunan Province. It is the fifth of the seven capital radial lines of China’s national expressway network.
(Target Site)
The Project
SLP designed and provided a rockfall protection system as part of the widening project in Guangyuan section, where is 300km northeast of Chengdu, China. This project composed two sections, the system of section A covers a 2,000m² area and the construction site up to 30m above a highway tunnel, while section B occupies 1,050m2 of rockfall attenuating system.
The Challenge
The project is divided into two construction sections. Section A is located on the top of the highway tunnel. The unstable rocks and sandy-soil woods on the 30m high slope with 40º gradient above the portal is a big hidden risk to the overall project. The section B is located next to the construction access road, with interference from large numbers of construction workers entering and exiting.
The Solution
SLP adopts composite solution of PPS-150 (rockfall barrier) and APS-150 (retention system). The rockfall barrier system with total service height of 5m and 1500kj GB/T approved service level, is installed along a 800m rockfall-risky area, which aims intercepting the potential rocks and landslides from upper slope. The protective solution for the area between tunnel gate and slope top is a retention system, which stabilizes and limits the gravels and clasts of the steep slope.
